The successful commissioning of a retrofitted hydrogen combustion system

Two high-performance burners, each with a thermal output of 44 MW, can be operated flexibly with natural gas, hydrogen-rich refinery gas (95 vol.% H₂), or any desired mixture of both gases. NOx emissions were optimized to an extremely low level – a significant contribution to environmentally friendly production.

By enabling flexible fuel usage, an important milestone has been achieved on the path toward decarbonizing industrial processes.
